Why People Keep Coming Back to Coastal Five

It's not just the finish lines that bring people back β€” it's everything that happens in between.

Every year, there are people who cross a Coastal Five finish line and say:

"That was awesome."

And then, usually sometime between collecting their medal and getting home, they start thinking:

"Maybe I'll do it again next year."

It happens a lot πŸ˜…

So what is it about Coastal Five that keeps people coming back?

It's More Than Just a Race

Most events are over in a few hours.

You turn up.
You do your event.
You head home.

Coastal Five feels a little different.

With five races spread across two days, the weekend becomes an experience rather than a single event. People cheer each other on, compare stories from different races, and start planning what they might tackle next.

Sometimes before they've even finished the weekend πŸ‘€

Everyone Has Their Own Challenge

One of the best things about Coastal Five is that success looks different for everyone.

For some people, success is completing all five races.

For others, it's their first 5km.

It might be walking the Coastal Half.
Getting up Pukeiti without stopping.
Running a little further than last year.
Or simply getting to the start line after talking themselves out of it ten times.

Every achievement counts.

And every year people come back to see what they're capable of next.

The Courses Have Personality

Let's be honest.

Some courses are memorable for all the right reasons.

Some are memorable because they make your legs question your decision-making πŸ˜…

Riversdale Drive has become part of Coastal Five folklore.

Pukeiti has a habit of humbling people.

Lake Mangamahoe delivers scenery and adventure in equal measure.

And somehow, despite all the complaining that happens during the event, people keep coming back for more.

Funny that.

THE ATMOSPHERE IS HARD TO EXPLAIN

You can describe the distances.

You can describe the courses.

But the atmosphere is harder to put into words.

It's seeing people encourage complete strangers.

It's volunteers cheering everyone on, whether they're first or last.

It's watching someone achieve something they weren't sure they could do.

It's families, walkers, runners, joggers, first-timers and seasoned athletes all sharing the same weekend.

That's the stuff people remember.

THERE'S ALWAYS ANOTHER GOAL

The funny thing about Coastal Five is that people rarely stop at one achievement.

Someone finishes the Pukekura Park 5km and starts wondering about the Pukeiti Climb.

Someone completes the Coastal Half and starts eyeing up all five races.

Someone walks their first event and comes back the next year feeling more confident.

There's always another challenge waiting if you want it.

And if you don't?

That's okay too.

Maybe That's Why People Keep Coming Back

It's the challenge.

The atmosphere.

The community.

The scenery.

The stories.

The finish lines.

Or maybe it's all of those things combined.

Whatever the reason, every year we see familiar faces return to the start line.

And every year we welcome plenty of new ones too.

Maybe this is the year you find out what all the fuss is about πŸ‘Š
