Ready to finish off the Coastal Five with a short and sharp race?

This is going to be epic! The Mile is back and it's flat and fast, but it sure is going to tickle.

Our shortest event of the weekend will not only be our fastest but our biggest. We are encouraging everyone to get out and support the finale including waves for the kids.

The race starts at the iconic New Plymouth Racecourse and is a straight up and back to Coronation Ave.

Minimum Age

Open to all ages. All participants between the ages of 2 – 4 must register and be accompanied by an adult for the entire duration of the event. The accompanying adult must also register for the event and takes full responsibility for the safety of the entrant under 5 years. Participants 5 years and older can complete the course without an accompanying adult.

Timing Results

Timing results will be provided by age group category. Raceway Mile age group categories are as follows for men and women; 0-9 years, 10-15 years, 16-34 years, 35-49 years, 50-64 years, 65+ years

Walkers

Walkers are welcome to enter the Raceway Mile. All walkers must start the event behind the runners.

Prizes

All Raceway Mile finishers will receive a finisher medal. Random draw spot prizes will be awarded at prizegiving.

Race Rules

Baby buggies and prams will be allowed. Non-racing wheelchairs may be permitted to register, but must seek prior approval from the Race Director by emailing info@coastalfive.co.nz

The Raceway Mile is the perfect event for kids aged 0–11 to feel like absolute legends at the finish line.

Under 5s must run with an adult — ages 5+ can go solo like the speedy sprinters they are

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT WAVE TO RUN IN?

Easy! If you can run a mile in under 6 minutes, then the Fast Lane is your wave. ⚡️

If your mile is over 6 minutes, the Raceway Mile at 12:25 PM is the one for you—still competitive, still fiery, and full of fast runners.

👉 On the cusp? Give the Fast Lane a crack! Being a bit over 6 minutes won’t matter—you’ll still look (and feel) lightning quick out there. 💨

Kids have their own special Mini Milers wave at 12:10 PM. 👟💙

CAN PARENTS RUN WITH THEIR KIDS IN THE MINI MILER?

CAN WE USE PRAMS/STROLLERS IN THE MILE?

Yes—you can bring a pram or stroller into the Raceway Mile. 🙌 We love seeing families out on the course together!

A couple of things to keep in mind:

Please start toward the back of the wave so faster runners have clear space up front
Keep left where possible and be mindful of other runners around you

That way, everyone—from the speedsters to the stroller crews—gets to enjoy the Mile safely and at their own pace. 💙👶🛞

CAN I RUN IN MORE THAN ONE WAVE?

Yes, you can! If you’re speedy enough for the Fast Lane and also want to run alongside your kids or friends in the later waves—you’re welcome to line up twice. 🏃‍♂️➡️🏃‍♀️

It’s also a great option if your child wants you to run with them in the Mini Milers, but you’d still like to give the Mile a crack on your own. 🙌

👉 Just make sure you only wear your timing chip once—otherwise things might get a little confusing on the results sheet!

And remember: the more waves you run, the sweatier you’ll be when it’s time for prizegiving. 😉

WILL I RECEIVE A MEDAL?

IS THERE PRIZEGIVING?

Of course! Prizegiving will be held straight after the race at the Racecourse. We’ll have food trucks on site and the bar open—so you can refuel, celebrate, and soak up the buzz with your fellow runners. 🎉🍔🍻

ARE THERE SPOT PRIZES?

You bet! We’ve got a stack of awesome spot prizes from both local and national businesses. 🙌

Here’s how it works: at prizegiving you’ll see barrels set up with different prizes on offer. Just pop your race bib into the barrel for the prize you most want to win—it’s kind of like an auction, but without spending a cent. 🎟️🎉

If you’d like to keep your race bib as a memento, no worries—we’ll have spare slips you can write your name on and pop into the barrels instead. 🖊️✨

Then cross your fingers, grab some kai, and wait to hear if your name gets called. 🤞

WHERE DO I PARK?

If you’re arriving before 11:50am, you can park at the TSB Stadium or in the Racecourse carpark—nice and close to the action. 🚗✨

After 11:50am, the roads around the course will be in use for the event, so you’ll need to park in the surrounding streets and walk in along Rogan Street (which also happens to be part of the Mile course—think of it as a warm-up stroll). 👟

👉 Please do not park on Rogan Street itself, as this is part of the race course.

IS THERE A BAG DROP?

WILL ROADS BE CLOSED?

Yes—Rogan Street will be closed to traffic during the Raceway Mile so the course is safe for all runners, walkers, and Mini Milers. 🚧👟

That means kids can run freely without cars on course, and supporters can cheer from the sidelines without worrying about traffic. 🙌

Once the Mile is finished, the road will reopen so we can set up for the next event. If you’re still on the course after cut-off time, traffic management may be lifted and normal road use will resume.
